About Myself!

Hi readers!
Since this is the first post, let me tell you something about myself!
Well, where should I begin? Should I tell you my name, where I am from, what I do and other such stuff? But you could as well read those details when you read my profile. So there is no point in telling you all that. I have a better idea. Why not tell you some of my opinions. You will know me better then! The topic is "About Myself". Myself! Two words - My and self. Self is the consciousness present in the entire universe. It is in you and me, in all the animate and the inanimate objects, in all the different planets and stars and in all the heavens. It is as ubiquitous as air. And just like air, we can only feel it! So my self is the self present inside me! The self that is unique to me. It is like the balloon that is filled with air. As long as the balloon is not punctured, we can distinguish the air inside and the air outside, but when we prick it with a pin, the distinction disappears. Similarly, as long as the person is not self realised, he distinguishes the self as myself and yourself! Interesting isn't it? So what are the qualities of this self? It is the source of unending happiness or bliss or Ananda; it is the source of unending strength, the source of unending knowledge and the source of all sources. If that is the case, then we should be always happy, always powerful, always full of knowledge and always content. But there lies a hitch. This self that we think as our very own is very particular. Unless we give it the confidence that we really deserve all those great qualities, it just ignores us. Rather, it is we who ignore the self. We are more inclined to material pursuits, we are more interested in what others think about us, more interested in the gossip going on around us in the world and so have no time to spend with our selves.
Let us first feel our self. Let us try to understand it even if it is only a little. Let us try to respect it! I am sure that if we make our self trust us, we can become wonderful human beings. It does take effort - a huge one rather. But even an ocean is made up of tiny drops! Why not give it a try?

  1. Indeed,it takes huge effort to surmount the balloon that almost defines who we are externally in the world - the individual ego.
It becomes so hard when you realize the your greatest enemy is you - your mind.
Also,it becomes very necessary to have an aim and a belief to wage this battle within everyday. To know and ascertain for sure the ultimate aim is another task again which requires both effort and lord's grace.
Sometimes,it is very paradoxical and painful at the same time to realize that we are never actually alone and yet in the wordly sense we are always lonely.
Nevertheless,as u said, all this is worth the try, also because there is no escaping the mind. This is the eternal struggle.
I hope you keep progressing in your journey ahead.. :)

  3. First of all ... Congos for the start! Awesome introduction with philosophical touch. I had a small doubt though.. "as long as the person is 'not' self realized, he distinguished myself and yourself" are you sure this is right? Self realization is the thing that distinguishes each and every person right! Not sure of what you wrote..!Lemme know if I am wrong!

    Keep up the good work!

Self realisation is the realisation of the "Self" which means realisation of the universal consciousness. So a person who is self realised will not find any differences between the selves of individuals. This is similar to the balloon example given in the post.

  5. Hi,

Just deliberating for the sake of it...

Is the self different from myself? If the conscious of "I" and the "self" are the same, then unlike inanimate objects, sentient beings are self-intelligent and I should be able to reach to my self as it is non-different from myself. If the self is different from everybody and yet all pervading, is it an different independent source of power that has a different and presumably superior intelligence ?

    Regards,
    Ranga.

Myself is the my self, the consciousness present in me. So the 'real' I and the self I mentioned are not different. But how many of us realise that the real I is the self? Many people think they are the mind. That puts up the barrier from reaching the self. Hence, we are stuck with mediocre intelligence and average performance though we have the treasure of superior intelligence and infinite power within us. It does not make sense to turn off the tap and cry that water is not coming out, does it?
